Wates Residential has announced the appointment of Paul Nicholls as the new regional managing director for London, UK, effective February 2025.

This marks Nicholls’ return to Wates Residential after a four-year hiatus, during which he pursued various projects within the construction sector.

His return aligns with the company’s ambition to strengthen its position as a development partner in London.

Nicholls initially left Wates Residential in 2021 to establish the Real Group formed from Rydon Construction businesses.

However, last year, Real entered administration due to several reasons.

With more than 30 years of experience in the èßäAV, Nicholls brings a wealth of expertise to the role. He will report to Phillippa (Pip) Prongué, who is set to begin her tenure as executive managing director in January 2025.

Prongué will succeed Helen Bunch, who is set to retire early next year.

Bunch said: “The housing crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing our capital. Paul’s expertise will help us accelerate the deployment of private investment to support the delivery of both the GLA [Greater London Authority] and government’s ambitious housing targets.

“He rejoins a team that is much more regionalised than it was previously, a decision we made to get closer to our customers and projects. He will bring renewed drive to an already-strong board and team within the London region.â€

Nicholls will replace Nick Williams, who is retiring after a 40-year career in the industry, including three years at Wates.

Nicholls said: “The time I’ve had setting up my own business and advising other large-scale businesses has proven invaluable where I learnt more about myself and about the inherent risks within the sector.

“I am excited to join Pip and the rest of the team as we embark upon a new approach to increasing investment and delivery across London.â€
