The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a domestic two-lane road in Asipulo, Ifugao Province.

The new road connects Barangay Cawayan to Asipulo.

Spanning 3.5km, the road was implemented by the DPWH Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Regional Office at a cost of 134.85m pesos ($2.29m).

The project included the construction of reinforced concrete pipe and box culvert, as well as a kerb and gutter for drainage.

This road is a part of the ‘Kiangan – Asipulo – Ambaguio – Bayombong Road’ network, filling in a previously missing link.

DPWH CAR director Khadaffy Tanggol said: “The road also serves as an alternative route from Ifugao going to Ambaguio – Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, benefiting the mobility and connectivity between Cordirella and Cagayan Regions.”

Additionally, the DPWH has completed a shoreline structure in Maasin City, Southern Leyte, to protect against storm surges.

The flood mitigation structure, which extends for 915 linear metres in Barangay Canturing, is built on a steel sheet pile foundation.

It also includes 831.6 linear metres of tetrapods, serving as a shoreline protection structure in Barangay Asuncion.

The Southern Leyte District Engineering Office implemented the multiyear project, which was divided into three contract packages.

DPWH Region 8 director Edgar Tabacon said: “With these shore protection projects, fishermen living in Barangay Asuncion and Barangay Canturing can safely dock their boats along the shoreline, even during storms, without the fear of being damaged by high waves.”

This project included an accumulated budget of 170m pesos from the country’s General Appropriations Act spanning 2021-23.

Earlier this month, the DPWH revealed the completion of a domestic hanging steel bridge in Sitio Sinuhot, Cagayan De Oro City.
